"A Muse Among Stars"

Finished this painting at 6am today. Been too busy to really post up all the progress pix. It's currently in transit to Copro Nason Gallery's Hi Fructose "Overdose" Show that opens this Sat the 4th. From what I've seen there's some really amazing work for the show! If you're in the LA neighborhood this is definitely one to check out. Just found out the piece has already SOLD. Definitely having a good day^_^ And back to painting...

New Vid

A bit of the progress shown below. Vid is a little over an hour of painting. And as I mentioned before it's a little more fun to watch than when I'm noodling someone's face.................. Yes. I said noodling someone's face. I don't want to bore you anymore Eric painting at Ludicrous Speed so I'll stop with the vids for a while. But stay tuned for more progress pix as I flesh this one out. Thanks!

Progess 3

I just bought some much needed proper lighting. I must say this cleared up a lot of noise and the even lighting is about to make me cry:( Joy Had a late start today. I had to write a proposal for a class I'm planning to teach at CCAD Spring of 2010....we'll see how that goes.

Killer work. It's a breath of fresh air seeing the accepted works and award winners. And definitely inspiring. Here are just a few that like.

New Painting Vids

Just posted 2 new painting vids which resulted in the below image. It's a little more fun to watch in the beginning of a painting where things seem to be moving along. Watching someone noodle while super fun for me probably not as cool to sit through.

Each video is approx 20 mins of painting

(don't hate on the back brace;)

Progress 2

Went in to the branches with a layer of paint to darken them so that they didn't get too lost when I put on the first overall wash. Big wash then used some paper towels and a nice clean brush to pull some of the paint off the figure. Might be done for the night.

Color Comp

Rough color study to get the general feel of the piece. Sometimes I don't feel like I need one. But it speeds up the process knowing what colors and how dark something is going to be. Without I tend to paint a lot slower building up the color and value. Now I paint.

New Piece Progress

I have a piece I'm workin on for Copro's Hi*Fructose show opening on April 4th. This one is due soon so I can get it framed and shipped. I'm gonna do at least one progress pic a day. Here's the first one. Sketch-check, reference-check, transferred-check, final drawing-check. The next post should hopefully have some paint on it:) Stay tuned.

The sketch is a bit embarrassing. I thought I was cool with the it. But I felt like it was missing something after transferring. I ended up just adding onto the final and making a few changes here and there. I usually try to figure out all the important stuff prior to transferring but I feel really good about it so far. Until later tonight(tomarrow morning)...

Shannon Bonatakis

Shannon has some super nice paintings at Rivet Gallery. I forgot my camera at the opening so I came back for seconds.

Wow...

I received this completely unexpected and profoundly touching letter in the mail. You never know who is seeing your art or how your art may be affecting them. A letter like this is truly appreciated. Adds some perspective to your life. I still ain't sending any prints though! Sike;) I'm about to hook this person up with some goodness^_^ Thank You.

Sincerely,
Eric

Pirate Scar!!!

I wish I could say something cool like "I was getting my swashbuckle on when all of a sudden..." or "I was on my 9th air track when some dude from the other crew..." or maybe "I was getting art supplies outta the back of my car when I turned around and not realizing that the door had started to close of it's own volition smashed my eyebrow into the edge of the car door when...."huh? wait. Ok, nevermind. Dang, it's already affecting me. Must be the loss of blood. Peroxide, neosporin, superglue. Arghhhhhh!!!
